The Ocean Steward I - Open Water Training Scholarship is open to all Connecticut high school students who want to become open water scuba divers.

This $1000 scholarship is to cover most if not all of the costs associated with becoming a certified open water scuba diver. The funds can be used to purchase personal gear including a mask, a snorkel, boots and fins, online electronic learning, confined water tuition and open water certification fees. Recipients can choose any local dive shop or independent instructor to complete their certification. Disbursement will be made directly to the dive shop or independent instructor.

Individuals applying for this scholarship must be able to swim at least 200 yards and complete a 10-minute survival tread. Completion of the Diver Medical Questionnaire will be required by your instructor. Applicants should review this questionnaire before applying to evaluate their eligibility.

Applications will be accepted starting February 1, 2026. All applications must be received by March 15, 2026. Scholarships will be awarded on or about March 31, 2026.
